Baker Club Ties |
2/12/2011 |
Good News!
As of 2nd December 2011 the new Baker Club tie is available to buy from the Parent Club. This tie has been Designed with the Baker Family crest as the centre point (which is woven in to the fabric - and NOT printed), as you know this crest was presented to Major Henry Baker's Son by King William 111. The tie also states the dates when Major Henry Baker was Governor of the city on the tie point, this feature adds to the uniqueness of the design and the early feed back is very positive indeed. If you would like purchase a tie I would advise you do this ASAP as they will go quickly at £10 each. |

Henry Baker Jewel |
10th Novmeber 2010 |
The Baker Club has, for the first time created a jewel taken from the crest William 111 ordered to be made after Governor Henry Baker’s death.
The crest symbolises Henry Baker defiantly throwing the last loaf of bread in the face of the enemy and shouted the watch word of the defenders “No surrender”.
Baker was elected Governor after Col. Lundy along with rev. George Walker assumed governorship of the besieged garrison on the 19th April1689. Baker was a valiant man of war, a man greatly loved, trusted and an inspiration to all.
The jewel has six pieces of history inscribed on the front and three pieces of information on the back. The six pieces of history on the front are as follows:
1. Tells us that Col. Henry Baker was a Governor of the besieged City.
2. From 19th April - 30th June 1689 was the period of time Baker was Governor.
3. The 30th June was the date Governor Henry Baker died of fever.
5. Baker shouted the watchword of the defenders which sounded so many times over the city walls, NO SURRENDER.
6. After Bakers death William 111 ordered this coat of arms (crest) to be made, he later presented it to Governor Baker’s son.
The three pieces of information on the back are as follows:
1. The year the jewel was made.
2. The parent club.
3. The Presidents name.
The jewel has proven to be a great success, not only with members of the Baker Clubs but from other members of the Apprentice Boys Association and collectors.
We believe this is due to the amount of history the jewel has to offer. The Baker Club is very proud of the fact that we can now take all of this history well into the future by proudly displaying our jewel not only on parade, but in the Apprentice Boys’ Association Museum where it will be on display for many years to come.
